Jake Carrico - Sr. LCHS

Hey! I'm Jake Carrico and I've been a part of InvenTeams since my Sophomore year at Lexington Catholic High School. I have always been fascinated and interested in science, engineering, computers, and especially programming and math. Ever since I began school, math has been my favorite subject by far. Each year I love diving into new concepts and exporing all of the possiblities math has to show. My sophomore year at LCHS is when I took my first programming class and essentially fell in love with it after the first week. I would finish all the assignments in one-fourth of the time it took the rest of the class and would even write my own programs for fun (including creating this website)! I have taken every programming class available to me at LCHS and even though I am not in one right now, I still very activly code using C++, Java, and HTML. My combined interest in these two subjects along with the amazing oppurtunity to build an actual idea from scratch with a group of my friends is what intrigued me to want to be a part of InvenTeams.

Being a part of the Exemplar Scholars program at Lexington Catholic has helped me to challenge myself to take the toughest and most rigorous courses LCHS has to offer. Also, as a member of this selective program, I was required to participate in a 100 hour mentorship/research project. I chose the InvenTeam as a perfect fit for what I wanted to persue as a high school student. I knew this would be a very unique and valuble learning experience that not many people have the oppurtunity to participate in. InvenTeams was almost perfectly tailored to my interests and I am very happy to be a part of it!

Activities

Ultimate Frisbee

In addition to my interest in math, science, and technology, I really enjoy being active and outdoors. I became involved with Ultimate Frisbee my freshman year of high school. Throughout the years, we have won our state championship twice and have nearly gone undefeated in Kentucky.

I am proud to say that as a senior next year I will be head captian of the team hopefully leading us to another state title! This past year at state I was selected by my coaches to represent the team and the ultimate frisbee community to give an interview to our local news station. I am very involved and dedicated to this sport year round and hope to continue playing frequently for the rest of my life!

Swimming and Diving

I spend most of my time during the summer as an active member of my neighborhood swim and dive team. In addition to swimming, I have been diving for the past 3 years and have placed in the the top 3 every year I've been diving. I am very competitive and love to help lead my team to victory! I love being a part of this team and it has always been a huge part of my summer each year.

Piano

Ever since I was 5 years old, I have always loved playing piano. I started lessons when I was around 6 or 7 years old, but eventually quit taking lessons when I was about 13 because I got bored of learning to read music and play all of the slow classical pieces. Ever since I quit lessons until now, I have self-taught myslef many different unique pieces that I enjoy learning and playing. I play every single day for fun and it is one of my absolute favorite passtimes. Over the years, I have played at recitals, churches, school, and charity events in addition to paid gigs including weddings, vineyards, and clubhouses.

One rather quirky thing about my playing abilities is that I cannot read sheet music hardly at all. I never use it when I play. I have a good ear and watch certain videos on YouTube to figure out most of my self-taugh songs. All of my songs are memorized and not dependent on sheet music at all. You won't ever see me looking at my music when I play!

To the right are a couple of my favorite pieces that I know. The top one is a song written by John Schmidt called "All of Me" and the bottom is the famous "Rondo Alla Turca" by W.A. Mozart.
